There are so many different ways to make a knit stitch - British, German, Continental, Portuguese to name a few. And then there are the subgroups of each!
British knitting is where the yarn is held in the right hand and "thrown" around the needle creating the stitch. Continental knitting and all its variations have the yarn held in the left hand and the yarn is scooped creating the stitch.
